Prayer Room Opened At Narita Airport Terminal 1

Japan has been going big on pleasing its Muslim visitors from all over the world.  Up until few years ago, we did not have any prayer room or, silent room, as they used to call it, at any airport of Japan. But few years ago, the authorities at the Narita International Airport reserved a room for prayers. But instead of calling it a prayer room, it was called a silent room.

However, today, I was delighted to see another prayer room on the 5th floor of Terminal 1 of the airport.  It was clearly marked s prayer room and surprisingly, its door was open.  In fact, it remains open every day from 6AM to 23PM for anyone who would like to pray there. Before that, we needed to take permission from the security guard nearby who would open the door of the room for us for a certain amount of time and then lock it again once we were done with the prayers. But now, there does not seem to be any restriction on the timing we can stay

One other positive change I noticed today was that the airport authorities had also set up a ‘wudu’ facility inside the prayer room. That is indeed amazing. This is a facility which you can only find in a regular masjid in Japan and nowhere else.

Each of the prayer room in Terminal 1 and 2 is fully carpeted, marked with Qibla signs, and has an ablution place for making Wudu. The  construction of the wudu place or washing equipment is especially helpful for elderly people, tired visitors after long flights from foreign countries and women.

The airport authorities at Narita International Airport also plan to construct two other prayer rooms where passengers could walk through after completing the embarkation procedures.

Next time, when you visit Narita International Airport and land at any of its terminal, just ask any staff member on duty about the prayer room and they should be able to guide you on how to get to the place. This is a great service for the Muslim visitors at the airport which is the largest airport of the country.  Muslims will really like it.
