Update (October 2026): This article was published for Ramadan 2020/2021, and its timetable no longer applies. Ramadan 2027 is projected to begin on 8 February 2027, with Eid al-Fitr expected on 9 or 10 March 2027, both subject to moon sighting. Exact dates depend on moon sighting and are announced by local Islamic authorities, so check your local mosque for daily prayer and iftar times.
Alhamdulillah, Halal Japan is glad to announce that Ramadan 2021 has been announced for Japan. Please prepare yourself and your family members to start fasting from tomorrow morning, Insha Allah. It is sad that the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to rob hundreds of millions of Muslims in Japan and around the world from congregating for prayers, iftar, and other Ramadan-related activities. But, let`s accept whatever the circumstances may be and pray to Allah for seeking His blessings and forgiveness whatever the situation we may be facing.
Masjids don’t just host daily free iftar (the meal eaten after sunset). They host fundraisers, and Islamic lectures, all an integral part of the holy month. Following most iftars, Muslims go to the masjid for a communal prayer that can only be done during Ramadan, Taraweeh.
This year as well, many Muslims will have to go the virtual route. But, we suggest all Muslim brothers and sisters not lose hope and continue to seek the pleasure of Allah even if they are alone.
