In 2013 the Chiba Prefectural Government reported that 2 million foreign tourists stayed in hotels in the prefecture, mostly near Narita Airport and before or after flights. The government sent delegations to Thailand, Malaysia and other Asian markets to encourage visitors to stay longer, and pointed to Tokyo Disneyland, Makuhari Messe and Narita-san Shinshoji temple as attractions.
