Although, the author of this blog post has lived in Japan for almost 20 years now, he had not been able to visitOkachimachi Masjid in Central Tokyo whichwas built few years ago.Alhamdulillah, early this week, and then, again today for Friday Prayer, I got a chance to visit the mosque. It is a lovely little mosque in Central Tokyo, and, maybe most convenient to people fromAkihabara,Ueno, Tokyo/Otemachi,Okachimachi, and, of course, University of Tokyo as well.
Though, the masjid is about five to ten minutes` walk from the JR Okachimachi Station, it is just a three-minute walk from NakaOkachimachi Subway station. I saw so many people rushing to catch the Friday Prayers from nearby places.
It was amazing to see people from so many nationalities praying together in the mosque. Most of these people were either students from nearby educational institutions or employees from multinational offices scattered in that area so abundantly.
It may not be THE most beautiful mosque in the city. However, it is certainly the most convenient for people from Central Tokyo. So, please do not forget to visit the mosque when you are in the nearby area next time.
Near the mosque, you will find a Halal food shop which sells all types of halal ethnic foods from the subcontinent and other Muslim countries from the Middle East and Africa. There is also a Pakistani halal restaurant nearby which is open every day until late in the evening.
The nearby Ueno area is dotted with shrines and temples of all types and sizes. These were built by the Tokugawa Shogun during their more than 300 year rein in Japan. The area is famous for its cherry trees.
You can not afford to miss Akihabara while visiting this area as Akihabara Town is at a distance of one kilometer from the masjid. there are some Muslim brothers who are in the electric town but say their daily prayers in the mosque. So, please do visit that as well especially, if you are interested in buying electrionics items for your family and friends.
