The service will enable foreign visitors to Japan to surf the Web free of charge in the vicinity of the Keisei Skyliner train and some other selected spots near the Keisei line. The Skyliner train runs between Narita Airport and Ueno Station in Tokyo.
The number of foreign visitors to Japan has been increasing for the last few years now. By offering free wi-fi service to its foreign customers, Keisei hopes to improve comfort and convenience on its rail network and encourage tourist visits to sightseeing spots along Keisei routes. The Keisei network includes the Skyliner, which connects Narita International Airport, the principal gateway to Japan, with downtown Tokyo at Ueno Station. The network also includes connections to many popular sightseeing spots in Chiba and Tokyo, including Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, the Ueno district and TOKYO SKYTREE.
Keisei already offers a Wi-Fi service on Skyliner trains and at Skyliner stations. However, foreign
visitors up until now could not access this service unless they concluded a contract with a local telecoms carrier.
From April 8, 2015. Keisei started offering two free Wi-Fi services: one in Skyliner trains and one in Keisei stations.
Visitors from overseas, who typically do not have contracts with Japanese telecoms carriers, will be
able to use Wi-Fi for free for a certain period of time, following a simple registration process.
For the train service, foreign visitors will be able to use the Wi-Fi connection by entering an ID and
password distributed at designated counters on the Keisei Railway network. In the station service, visitors can use free Wi-Fi on concourses and platforms simply by specifying the name of the Company’s network and entering their e-mail addresses. Together these services will provide foreign visitors with convenient Internet access when riding the Skyliner and a convenient way of searching information about sightseeing spots,
including access by train.
