Finding Qibla directions for the purposes of prayer is an important task both for Muslims living in Japan as well as the Muslim visitors to the place from other countries. Many five-star hotels these days either have Qibla compass or have already affixed Qibla marks in at least some of their hotel rooms for the convenience of Muslim guests. However, there are a lot of places where you may not have that facility available.
Qibla directions are also affixed in all the prayer rooms (Musallahs) developed by the Japanese government at the major airports in Japan, in some shopping malls or even at public places such as Namba in Osaka.
To help you determine the Qibla directions easily, you may want to either install a mobile application on your smartphone, try to find it on Google map or buy a reliable Qibla Compass to do so. The Qibla compass can be purchased in Japan as well form some mosques including the Otsuka Masjid.in Tokyo.
If you would like to determine the Qibla directions from Google Maps, you may follow the following method.
Determining Qibla Direction
Start by entering the name of your city and country (e.g. Tokyo, Japan). For many countries and cities, you can even enter your street address. The Qibla direction will be automatically calculated and displayed on the Google map. For Tokyo, the Qibla direction is 293.05 degree from true North.
To have a detailed information on how to determine Qibla directions no matter where you are, there is an excellent article published on www.onislam.net website. You may use that if needed to have a much clearer understanding of the topic.
