A bill passed the Diet that allows foreign professionals with advanced skills, such as researchers and engineers in information technology, to stay in Japan indefinitely, and simplifies passport control procedures for foreign tourists. The revision to the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Law was supported by the ruling LDP and Komeito.
